The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, high-level disinfection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of clean and sterile surgical instruments, trays, and pans. This role involves operating state-of-the-art equipment, inspecting instruments, and ensuring sterility is maintained according to established procedures and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities:
- Inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instrument pans, procedural trays, technical equipment, and surgical case carts.
- Operate steam sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, aerators, utensil washers, and cart washers.
- Perform simple maintenance of sterilizers.
- Prepare cultures, review test packs, interpret results, and complete required documentation to assure sterility.
- Check and adjust medical equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment following established procedures.
- Set up decontamination equipment, clean and disinfect equipment and work areas, and handle infectious waste and linen according to protocol.
- Receive and store supplies, check stock against requisitions, document stock received, and report discrepancies.
- Document and fill orders for surgical supplies for patient care areas.
- Maintain records of equipment inventory use, frequency of servicing, and equipment needing repair.
- Perform daily quality assurance checks on stock levels, sterility dates, and accuracy of procedure carts.
- Maintain critical documentation such as biologicals and sterilizer load sheets.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Certified Sterile Processor (HSPA or CBSPD)
- BLS (American Heart Association ONLY)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician
- Large hospital experience (500+ beds)
- Travel experience (minimum 6 months)
- Two professional references from the last two assignments
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Level 1 trauma center experience
- Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER Cert)
- Orthopedic tray experience
Special Considerations:
- Days, weekends, and holidays required per unit needs.
- On-call/callback responsibilities per unit needs.
Scheduling:
- 40 hours per week.
- Shifts are determined per unit needs.
